Waves of Fun Splash onto Pine Avenue with Powerfest Thursday
Celebrate summer in Downtown Long Beach with Powerfest Thursday on Pine! As the waterfront revs up for the annual Powerfest Boat Races July 18 – 20, Pine Avenue will be filled to the brim with boatloads of fun for the whole family on Thursday, July 17.
With DJs spinning throughout the event, a Wakeboard Rail Jam stunt show, a bikini contest, watercraft displays and a live concert with an AC/DC tribute band, this high-energy street party is sure to have something for everyone!
Head to Pine Avenue at 5:30 p.m. for the first sounds of summer fun, as the DJ kicks off the night from the Diamond Parking Lot in between Hooters and the Madison. Stroll up and down Pine Avenue between Broadway and 4th for an impressive display of speed boats, Sea-Doos, a monster truck and other watercraft.
Be sure to cast your vote in the Miss Powerfest Bikini contest at 7 p.m., presented by Hooters, and cheer on your favorite contestant as the next Miss Powerfest 2008 is crowned. And don’t miss the special viewing of documentaries featuring wakeboarding history-makers on the side of the Madison in the Diamond Parking Lot.
If you have been thrilled by the high-flying motocross entertainment that kicks off Grand Prix weekend in April, you will not want to miss the Wakeboarding Rail Jam at 8 p.m. Taking some of the best elements of water-skiing, snowboarding, and skateboarding, wakeboarding shreds the water with extraordinary and imaginative feats to delight fans of all ages. Professional wakeboarders will perform breathtaking stunts as they are pulled from one standing pool to another, separated by a 30 foot rail, by the yank of a gas-powered winch. Don’t miss your chance to get up close and personal to (and soaked by!) all the action!
After this cutting-edge demonstration, Bonfire will take the stage at 9 p.m. with everyone’s favorite AC/DC tunes. Don’t be afraid to get back in black and listen to the money talk as Bonfire shakes you all night long with their rocking tribute to one of Australia’s greatest exports.
